Neighborhood Unwind @ the Undergrind

Undergrind Cafe is exactly what we want in a FunLunch Friday. Good food, fast and easy counter service, charming and attractive employees, incredibly affordable, AND easy parking (sometimes)?!?! This is as close to an LA unicorn as it comes.

We’ve both ordered Undergrind for delivery, but the vibes live on scene proved this was worth the in-person order.

Casual counter seating with a few tables out front, this breakfast/lunch cafe was busy, but not packed on a Friday afternoon.

What we ordered:

Emerald City Iced Pistachio Latte

This iced pistachio latte was STUNNING. Showstopping. Smooth, creamy, sweet, light.

Janice skipped a fun beverage opting for her typical gallon of H2O and she regretted it.

DO NOT skip the teas and drinks (after all Undergrind also has a juice bar Undergrind Raw just across the street…)

XXX Pork Adobo Burrito

The menu at Undergrind is a little confusing. Where does this Pork Adobo burrito fit in?

Our stomachs. That’s where it lives.

Slow roasted adobo pork, garlic rice, cabbage, carrots, cilantro, green onions & spicy Peruvian jalapeno sauce all wrapped in a perfectly grilled tortilla made for a filling, spicy, crispy, creamy, delicious Friday lunch.

EAST CHOP 

Janice opted for the East Chop salad. Because she was being healthy that day okay?!?!

It was a solid salad, made up of grilled chicken, lettuce, cabbage, shredded carrots, cilantro, green onion, cucumbers & crispy noodles served with ginger dressing. And the portion for the price was generous, but the salad was hard to toss since container was so full.

Next time, she’ll have what Rachel’s having.

Concluding Thoughts:

As far as neighborhood lunch spots go - it doesn’t get much better than Undergrind. Could it be the best deal in town? Great food without any scent of a scene.

And, to top it off it’s a black-owned business co-owned by a woman! If that’s not a neighborhood joint you can get behind, I don’t know what is.
